Junior and Beginner Tennis
Junior tennis is open to anyone who is currently at primary or secondary school ( 5-18yrs) and takes place on Saturday mornings at the tennis club. Junior tennis provides a beginner program for younger children ( primary school aged) who are new to tennis and a competition program for other junior players. The aim of junior tennis is fun, fitness and social.
Junior competition ranks players into sections so that players of similar ability play together. The juniors play doubles but do not need to form teams to play as this allows flexibly for juniors who may not be able to play every week. Junior players are ranked each week according to a ladder based on results from previous weeks and so they can move between sections and may not play with the same players each week.
Beginner tennis offers lower and upper primary age sessions each Saturday morning and aims to introduce new players to the game of tennis and develop skills and coordination. The sessions are a modified Hot Shots program hosted by volunteer members of the club and are not formal coaching.
All juniors are welcome to come and try tennis as a great social and fun sport. If junior players play regularly then they will need to become members of the club. Memberships are very reasonable and each week juniors pay $2 ball money to play or participate in beginners.
Formal tennis coaching is conducted every Friday after school during terms 4 & 1 by experienced tennis coach, Brian Carr. For more details please contact Brian directly on 5463 2378. Brian also provides an excellent range of junior and adult racquets to suit the individual needs of players and racquets can be tested and purchased on Friday afternoons.
Further information about junior tennis programs is available by clicking the links on this page to the information sheets.
If you are interested then please feel free to come to the courts on Saturday mornings during the season to give tennis a try.
